The Trade Game—No Bueno—Teach Your Dog to Give Things Up
Do you have to "trade" your dog things to get things from them? This is really common, and although it sometimes works, it might not always. Even if it does work, we discuss the reasons it's generally a bad idea to play the trade game or bribe your dog to give you something it has in its possession.
So what the best way is to take an item away from a dog without the conflict of having to reach in and physically take the item away (which we never do). Bones, food, toys, household items..doesn't matter. You need to be able to remove things from your dog's possession safely.
In this episode I talk about how you can 100% take anything away from your dog at any time, but without conflict or risk of a bite. You will also get your dog into a more respectful headspace with these tips. And really instill that humans control the resources which is the safest way for your dog to see the world.
